Addict escapes jail term in daughter’s abuse

A crack-addicted woman was handed a 13-month conditional sentence yesterday for corrupting her developmentally challenged daughter, who was used for sex and given cocaine by other crack-users at the family’s Rexdale flophouse.
“This is sick, sad and atrocious. The sheer horror of the facts makes this the worst type of breach of trust,” Crown attorney Jennifer Strasberg said in demanding a prison sentence.
The 43-year-old mother of three pleaded guilty to a charge of corrupting a child.
Her 15-year-old daughter — who reads at a Grade 2 level — was exposed to drug addicts in her mom’s home in 2006. She was told by her then 13-year-old child that she had been sexually exploited.
The mom confronted the abusers, believed their denials and continued to let them into her home,” Strasberg said.
“A mother has totally failed her daughter in the worst kind of way. She was sexually assaulted and became a drug addict by being given drugs over a 12-month period,” said Strasberg, who demanded a prison sentence in the “range of 18 months.”
Strasberg said the mom would be smoking crack in her room while the daughter performed sex acts in the living room. Drug testing confirmed the girl’s drug use with “high level of exposure.”….(Full Story)
