Baby P and the Child Abuse Industry

The Baby P killing reveals the child abuse industry at its most cynical. The Soviet-style ineptitude revealed daily is the product not of poor training or underfunding but of the logic inherent in bureaucratic politics.

We have long known what causes child abuse and why children like Baby P die. The vast preponderance of child abuse and child deaths occurs in single-parent homes. Very little abuse takes place in married, twoparent families. London’s Family Education Trust long ago demonstrated that children are up to 33 times more likely to suffer serious abuse and 73 times more likely to suffer fatal abuse in the home of a mother with a live-in boyfriend or stepfather than in an intact family.

Figures from the US Justice Department show that single mothers accounted for 55 per cent of child murders. Shorn of politically correct euphemism, what this means is that the principal impediment to child abuse is a father. ‘Fathers have often played the protector role inside families,’ writes Adrienne Burgess of Fathers Direct. A study in the journal Adolescent and Family Health found that ‘The presence of the father … placed the child at lesser risk for child sexual abuse.’

Yet instead of allowing fathers to protect their children, fathers are forcibly and systematically removed from their homes and children by family courts with the active support of social work bureaucracies….(Full Story)

…Miss Laframboise neatly turns the MacKinnon ravings (such as “Compare victim’s reports of rape with women’s reports of sex. They are a lot alike”) upside down by comparing them with “flesh and blood” reports in the Landers column. The latter run the behavioral gamut. Some men behave badly; some are criminal abusers; others behave honourably. Still others write to praise their mothers, wives and daughters, and are praised by them. Since Miss Dworkin has stated that any woman who enjoys sexual relations with a man is a “collaborator,” and Miss Faludi believes that any man who wants to be a “good provider for his family” really intends only to oppress his wife, it’s doubtful they will accept such testimony.

The book takes aim at the studies NACSOW and other government agencies use to “prove” that Canadian men are engaged in a “war against women.” To back the claim that 29% of women have been assaulted by spouses, Statistics Canada included those who have been “grabbed” during an argument (a deplorable action but hardly a vicious one). The Panel on Violence went StatsCan several steps better by discovering that 98% of women have been assaulted. “Since obscene phone calls qualified as ‘violence’,” Miss Laframboise comments, “it’s surprising that the total wasn’t 100 percent.”

The results have been skewed, she charges, by such techniques as surveying unrepresentative populations (residents of battered women’s shelters), and extrapolating to the general population. Moreover, for the data to mean anything, women’s experiences had to be set beside men’s. Therefore StatsCan conducted a two-part study, but then refused to publish the figures on male victims of female violence. A shocking 17.8% of men “admitted to behaving in a ‘violent’ manner toward their spouses.” But so did 23.3% of women, and 6.2% acknowledged actually “beating up their partner” - compared to 2.5% for men….

The article bemoans the lack of social services workers in Ontario, for which reason violence against women, so it is alleged, cannot receive the full attention it deserves from the government of Ontario.

Sir,

The problem is not that there are insufficient numbers of social workers. Rather, it is the allocation of those resources. What is needed is to re-educate social workers and reassign their priorities.

It is of grave concern that the entire, and I mean entire, emphasis now is on the so-called family/domestic, etc. violence, which in the social worker lingo means “violence against women”. Children are linked as appendices to women and only receive attention when they can be used as propaganda tools.

Though the scientific community now has to admit that females are at least as violent as males, even if they may express it in a slightly different manner, often perpetrating their acts of aggression by proxy, all counselling is based on William Glasser’s Reality Therapy.

    Men’s therapy groups - to stop the violence that exists in relationships between men and women. Therapists use a discussion format to explore men’s violence in relationships and to propose non-violent alternatives for solving problems. Responsibility for one’s actions and consequence of choice are emphasized.

Women’s therapy groups - to increase women’s understanding of violence between partners and to provide them with strategies for protecting themselves against that violence. Therapists encourage open and frank discussion about past violence and explore methods of avoiding violence in the future.

The Ontario government spends $145 million [a year] in direct contributions to combat violence against women, yet there is no evidence to support the hypothesis that we are in the grips of an all out epidemic of wife beatings and homicides. Rather, all the available data point to the other direction: women are the aggressors, not the aggrieved, especially when it comes to child abuse, often fatal.

Couple jailed for toddler killing

A mother and her partner have been jailed after being found guilty of killing her two-year-old daughter who had suffered more than 100 injuries.

Zahbeena Navsarka, 21, of Riddings Road, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was jailed for nine years for the manslaughter of Sanam Navsarka.

Her partner Subhan Anwar, 21, was jailed for life for murder, with a minimum sentence of 23 years.

Bradford Crown Court heard a metal pole was used to shatter the child’s leg.

[Mineola, NY, USA]: Leatrice Brewer nodded almost imperceptibly when the judge asked her whether she killed her 18-month-old son.

“Yes,” she whispered.

“Take a deep breath and keep going,” Nassau County Judge Meryl Berkowitz said, before asking Brewer about the other two children she drowned last February in her bathtub: her daughter, 6, and son, 5. She answered “yes” to questions about them, too.

Brewer Monday pleaded not responsible by reason of mental disease or defect, and will now be sent to a secure upstate psychiatric facility indefinitely, prosecutors said. Brewer, prosecutors and Berkowitz all agreed to the plea after two independent psychiatric evaluations showed that at the time she killed the three children, she didn’t know that what she was doing was wrong….(Full Story)

Woman charged with beating adopted son to death

An East Texas woman accused of beating her 13-year old adopted son to death with an array of household weapons was indicted today for capital murder.

Cynthia Hudson, 45, of Queen City was indicted by the Cass County grand jury, which accused her of beating her adopted son, Samuel, with a broom handle, a mop handle, a rake, a baseball bat and a computer cord at their home last December….(Full Story)

F4L: Miranda Devine review of the movie “Gran Torino” gives full credit to the feat by Clint Eastwood, who made the movie “Gran Torino” in 32 days and turned it in a #1 box office hit that is even now, after running almost two months, still in number three position.

It is hard to deny success like that, but success in the box office does not mean a tidal change in social attitudes towards the elderly.

Miranda Devine recounts how Walter Kowalski (played by Clint Eastwood, age 78) saves “a young South-East Asian neighbour from local gang members. Like Eastwood’s Dirty Harry, Walt has some memorable one-liners, such as: “Get off my lawn!” - said with a rifle in his hands. Walt sits on his verandah drinking beer and muttering racial slurs at the immigrants who have taken over his Detroit suburb….”

I have not seen the movie yet, but I have seen a fair bit of life.  Unlike what is insinuated in the movie, namely that a 78-year-old Grandpa can succeed in saving his neighbourhood, in real life it is far more likely that he would be neutralized.

He would be neutralized as surely as the sun rises in the East, not by the neigbourhood gangs but by the local SWAT team of the police. A 78-year-old man with a rifle is no match for a SWAT team with body armor, armed and trained for urban warfare.

In real life the end of the story would have come fairly early on, right after Walt Kowalski delivered the Dirty-Harry-like one-liner, “Get off my lawn” - rifle in hand.

Miranda Devine closes her review of “Gran Torino” with:

Why, if old age is all insomnia, worn-out organs and crippling medical costs, does society bother with it? Alford cites an old African saying, “the death of an old person is like the burning of a library”. Old guys remind us there are other ways of being human.

That, too, is a wishful thought, but it is no more influential than to celebrate emerging life at the other end of the range.

Such celebrations are necessary to make the pruning of life at both ends of the age range less acceptable, but for now it is quite alright to kill children not yet born at the rate of about 50 million each year in the world.  The day does not seem far off when the killing in such numbers of those about to die of old age will bother no one any more than the killing of children about to continue life outside their mothers’ wombs does.

Humanity declared children to be a luxury, a luxury we can’t afford and must therefore kill.  Children grow out of being unproductive.  Still, it is doubtful that it is wise to kill children regardless of an age-limit for culling them.  The children we cull don’t fight back.  They are not only innocent but powerless as well.

There are far more compelling reasons for the killing of the elderly.  The elderly are not likely to regain their productivity once they have lost it due to any health reason, even if it is nothing more than the feebleness that comes with old age.  Still, they can, just as Clint Eastwood did in “Gran Torino”, pretend that they have enough power to resist whatever is being done to them. It may make them feel better.

Dead boy’s parents sue province

Negligence claimed in $400,000 action over foster child

The biological parents of a three-year-old boy killed while in foster care in 2007 are suing the provincial government and the foster mother convicted of manslaughter in the child’s death for $400,000 in damages.

The parents are seeking the money “for grief and the loss of the guidance, care and companionship” of the boy, as well as expenses related to the boy’s injuries, funeral, grief counselling, along with other damages….(Full Story)

F4L: The article mentions that, “None of the parties can be named in order to protect the identity of the boy.”

What is there to protect?  The boy is dead!

It appears to be more likely that the parties are not being named to protect the guilty.

Protecting the boy should have been done to prevent the murder of the boy.

GALVESTON — Kimberly Dawn Trenor remained on suicide watch Tuesday after her capital murder conviction in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Riley Ann Sawyers.

After she is transferred to state prison sometime during the next few weeks, Trenor is likely to be a target of other inmates and probably will be segregated for her safety, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said.

Maj. Mike Henson, Galveston County Jail commander, said Trenor was immediately placed on minimum suicide watch after her conviction Monday for the slaying of Riley, dubbed Baby Grace by investigators after her unidentified body was discovered by a fisherman Oct. 29, 2007….(Full Story)
