Ottawa’s $2-billion hit list
September 27, 2006 by Walter Schneider.
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government tightened federal purse strings by $2-billion yesterday — slashing spending hated by many Conservatives, such as medicinal marijuana research — even as Ottawa disclosed that its coffers are bulging with another near-record budget surplus….(Full Story)

The article also states:
Spending on the chopping block includes funding for… the Court Challenges Program, which funded litigation in the name of equal rights — an initiative that partisan Conservatives have always derided.
“I just don’t think it made sense for the government to subsidize lawyers to challenge the government’s own laws in court,” Treasury Board president John Baird said.
Right! The Court Challenges Program was the vehicle used by feminists such as those in women’s law societies (Odd, isn’t it, that there were never any men’s law societies?) to do just about all of the social engineering that changed Canada in the course of a few decades to a parody of its justifiably-proud former self.
Interestingly, the budget cuts also include,
$5-million: Administrative reductions to Status of Women Canada
That cut puts icing on the cake, but I look forward to having all funding for Status of Women Canada cut, at least until we see an equally funded government department called Status of Men Canada being set up. Still, let’s be careful of what we ask for. It is quite likely that we’ll get more of it than we wish to have.
A society that puts equality—in the sense of equality of outcome—ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality nor freedom. The use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom, and the force, introduced for good purposes, will end up in the hands of people who use it to promote their own interests.
